The Medicare program is the principal source of insurance coverage for most Americans 65 and over as well as for Americans receiving Social Security Disability.

Medicare is divided into four major parts: Part A (hospital, skilled nursing, hospice and home health care); Part B (physician services, outpatient therapy); Part C (Medicare "Advantage", including HMOs and PPOs); and Part D (Prescription drugs).
